Let me be upfront with you.

For people as immersed in television as myself, Upfronts is an exciting time of year.  To be honest, I have already made a graph detailing my time-slot options for Fall 2012.  No shame in my game.  Here are a few shows I’m excited to sample:

ABC

Last Resort

Nashville

NBC

Go On

Revolution

The New Normal

CBS

Elementary

Vegas

FOX

The Mindy Project

The Mob Doctor

The Following

WALTER

I absolutely love Fringe.  It’s sci-fi, it’s smart, it has parallel universes; in essence, it really ticks my boxes.  Everyone is pretty great, but John Noble’s mad scientist Walter is a particular standout.  He rocks the emotional scenes, but this recently released compilation of “Walterisms” focuses solely on the humor.  What else can I even say, he’s just so damn funny…enjoy!

I’m bored.  No cadavers at this crime scene.  Or food.

BSG IS THE UNDISPUTED BEST

This is the first ever clip that I have seen of Portlandia due to my personal distaste for anything that reeks of hipster (read: is set in Portland and involves riding bikes while wearing cotton dresses, or shopping all day for organic milk and vintage buttons…I don’t even know).  I am at least aware of the irony in disliking something that I have not even fully tried on some weak preconceived notion, which is in fact the very essence of being a hipster.  But this clip cried out to me in a very specific way, as I am an avid marathoner of television, and Battlestar Galactica is probably the only thing I would save from a fire besides my cats.  So I will swallow the sword or eat a foot or whatever…the point is, I’d probably like this damn show.

Cotton, the fabric of our lives

Zooey Deschanel has been a popular topic recently, mostly due to her show New Girl.  I have always been very comfortable being completely annoyed by her– the sundresses, the random pitching of syllables, restricting the chefs on Top Chef Masters to making vegan food.  Yet, I can’t deny the perks of having Deschanel around.  She’s ripe fodder for impersonators, I actually really dig her band She and Him, and damnit if I haven’t started to enjoy her sitcom (though I do think the guys are the actual scene stealers).  So as a toast to the positives, I give you a Zooey parody, a Zooey song, and some Zooey clips.

Thank you, ABC…

…for renewing Happy Endings.  This show was not as beloved as it should have been, but it gets a second chance with the Season 2 premiere (ABC, September 28th, 9:30).  The first episode back is called “Blax, Snake, Home”.  I highly suggest you catch up with Season 1 on DVD because it’s hilarious, but it’s not really necessary to enjoy the show.  I rustled up a few clips online that I think best showcase the characters; Max gets 2 clips because he is the undisputed best.
